How to take care of flowers
When you receive beautiful and gorgeous flowers, it’s important to know how to take care of them, to let them stay fresh, lush and live fragrant for as long as possible. By bringing a bouquet home and putting it in the vase, the care for them shouldn't be considered as finished. Flowers like houseplants need everyday care.
The right choice of flowers is very important. Experts are recommending that you buy the flower while it's still in the cocoon, because it will stay fresh longer.
Then you need to choose the right vase. Place Roses and Carnations in a wide faience vase, so that the stems won’t interfere with each other. Place Chamomile and Gerbera in a long white porcelain and pay attention to the amount of the water.
Before placing your flowers in the vase, the part under the flower stem (the part that will be in the vase) should be freed from excess holders. What refers to the water’s temperature, you can fill fresh water from your tap, in winter the water should be room temperature. To keep your flowers fresh, you have to change the water every morning, clean the vase and the flowers’ stems.
Gerberas, Callas and Tulips, which have delicate tails, should be placed in a 5 centimeters deep water filled vase, that’s how to save them from rotting. For other flowers, cut the tails at a 45-degree angle to allow the flowers to absorb oxygen quickly through the water.
There is a stereotype that you need to add sugar, aspirin, charcoal, and alcohol to water to keep the flower fresh. But flowers are like people, they like “to drink” fresh water, so there is no need to add additives to the water.
Another stereotype is that rose thorns need to be removed. In fact, you shouldn’t do so, because the rose has a longer surface with a thorny surface, and when the thorns are removed, there is an open space on the surface, and the rose fades quickly.
